  Christmas Island Outfitters

Located 1,200 miles south of Hawaii and only 200 miles north of the equator in the Republic of Kiribati (pronounced Kiribas), Christmas Island, at 140 square miles, is the world's largest coral atoll. This lovely atoll is home to countless schools of bonefish and good populations of giant trevally. With the most consistent and predictably sunny weather of any bonefishing destination on earth, Christmas Island is on most experienced angler's list of the top five bonefish destinations worldwide.

Christmas Island is truly a legendary fly fishing destination. With all the saltwater options available to traveling anglers, Christmas Island stands unique. This huge atoll is a natural wonder that displays all the components critical for fly-fishing success. With its hard-bottomed sand flats that stretch to the horizon, prolific numbers of cruising bonefish and trevally and stable year-round tropical weather, Christmas Island is a destination every angler should visit at least once in his or her angling career.

Whether you are an experienced saltwater angler returning for your tenth trip or a novice keen on honing your flats fishing skills, we feel our outfitter offers the finest and most intimate angling experience the island has to offer.

Catering to no more than eight anglers per week, accommodations at Christmas Island Outfitters consist of four private bungalows that sleep two anglers each. Rooms are simple, clean and spacious and have private baths, fans, screened windows, a table with chairs and refrigerators. A common meeting area features a friendly bar and a casual dinning area where fresh simple meals are served. Kept small by design to ensure flexibility and quality fishing, CIO's daily schedule (including meal times) often varies slightly in order to take advantage of the best tides and fishing conditions.

All guides at Christmas Island Outfitters have been hand-picked for their overall level of experience, skill and teaching abilities. We feel one would be hard pressed to find a better crew of saltwater fly-fishing guides anywhere in the world.

Each day anglers depart via truck or catamaran for the day's fishing. While standard packages include one guide for every two anglers, one on one guiding is available at a reasonable additional cost.

Virtually all fishing is done while wading and often entails sight casting to fish in very shallow water. Christmas Island's plentiful bonefish average two to four pounds, but each week presents numerous opportunities at larger specimens in the 5-10 pound class.

For anglers keen on the challenge of trevally (including giant or GT, golden, blue fin, and striped), the guides at Christmas Island Outfitters are highly skilled and passionate in the pursuit of these legendary quarry. Trevally fishing, while a somewhat higher stakes game than bonefishing, can often lead to spectacular results!

We are often asked if the stories are true and it is worth going to Christmas Island. The only answer is that there is no doubt in our minds that Christmas Island ranks as one of the finest bonefishing destinations on earth. Its huge, expansive sand flats and prolific numbers of bonefish have been beckoning anglers to this Pacific atoll for more than fifteen years. If you want to experience the best bonefishing in the world during your angling career, Christmas Island must be on your list of "must-do" destinations to visit.

And to us, the best experience to be had on the atoll is with Christmas Island Outfitters. They have not only employed many of the best guides, but they also offer a very comfortable lodge with a great atmosphere making it the best choice for your adventure to this legendary south sea atoll.

Please call if you have any additional questions or need more details on this trip.
