Brazil: The Agua Boa River
 | LODGE: March 28 to April 4, 2009 (trip now filled)
HOUSEBOAT: March 22 to March 29, 2009 (trip now filled)
HOUSEBOAT: March 29 to April 5, 2009 (2 spots remain)
Over the last few years we've had some simply spectacular trips to the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge for peacock bass and a host of other exciting game species. This year's trip was GREAT and we have reserved the same week for spring 2009 along with two weeks on the NEW houseboat option! For those of you that have not had the good fortune to experience one of these trips, the Agua Boa River is a small, clear blackwater tributary of the Amazon River. Its waters contain all three species of peacock bass including the butterfly, the spotted and the temenis, which is the species you see in all the photographs of peacock bass from the Amazon Basin. Peacock bass are one of the strongest gamefish in the world and they are known for ferocious topwater strikes, gill-rattling jumps and unstoppable runs. What makes the Agua Boa River unique is that its peacocks can often be sightfished over white sand bars or along the edges of tributaries and interior lagos. This is a spectacular way to take a big peacock and something you'll not soon forget! These sightfished peacocks can be taken on poppers and subsurface streamers often in very shallow water.
In addition to peacock bass found in the Agua Boa River System, other species include payara (a fish with Count Dracula-like teeth and an attitude to match), piranha, pirarucu (up to 200lbs. and often called the tarpon of the Amazon), arowana (great jumpers and they too take topwater flies), jancunda and countless other species. We feel this fishery is world class and should be experienced by any dedicated fly angler.
Accommodations at the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge are in spacious, air-conditioned bungalows equipped with private baths, hot showers and lots of room to spread out. After a great day on the river, you'll appreciate the central building's beautiful bar (with satellite TV and DVD player) and the comfortable dining room where delicious meals are served. Just outside the main lodge is a 20-meter swimming pool and another bar area that overlooks the river. You should look at the photos on our website to get a better feel for the beauty of this spot.

Ragged Island: Bahamas
 | April 3-10, 2009 (3 spots remain)
Stretching southwest in a great semicircle from the west point of Long Island, lies a chain of beautiful and deserted cays. These Jumento Cays arc south some ninety miles until they terminate at Ragged Island. Ragged Island has only one town, a remote settlement of 75 people who meagerly live on what bounty the sea provides. There are no scheduled commercial flights to Ragged Island. Only a few of the local natives own cars and with good reason... on Ragged there are only a couple of poorly maintained roads and no where to go even if there were more roads. The ocean provides a simple life for these natives and the big event each week is when the mail boat arrives. With only an occasional sailboat ever reaching these cays, the extensive flats, patch reefs and sandy pockets sit waiting... untouched and absolutely pristine. This is truly an untapped paradise for the light tackle sport fisherman.
On this trip, we'll visit this remote and untouched area and flats fish for bonefish and permit, reef fish for snapper, 'cudas, jacks and grouper and bluewater fish for tuna and dorado... to name just a few! Trip members will enjoy clean and comfortable rooms complete with air-conditioning, tile floors, daily maid service and private baths. For meals, you'll have the choice of chicken, steaks and local seafood.
So come join us in the far reaches of the Bahamas and pursue tailing bonefish on the morning tide, chum the pristine reef edges at mid-day and play "bait 'n switch" out on the big blue in the afternoon. Alaskan Master Guide and Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame member Chuck Ash will be the host Price $2,995.00. Limit 4 anglers.

Bahamas: Water Cay
 | May 16 to 23, 2009 (3 spots remain)
Join us as we explore the extensive fishery surrounding Water Cay on Grand Bahama Island's north shore.
Enjoy this first-rate lodge and its well-positioned location on a remote cay smack-dab in the middle of bonefish central. Water Cay Lodge features plenty of amenities from a giant flat screen TV to a large wooden deck featuring comfortable lounge furniture overlooking the nearby flats. The rooms at the lodge are spotlessly clean with newly renovated bathrooms. The lodge also features a dual reverse osmosis water system that produces over 80 gallons of pure water each hour so you can drink the water right out of the tap and take a long hot shower at the end of the fishing day. Each of the guest rooms has a powerful window A/C unit that will insure comfortable sleeping conditions on even the hottest nights.
Breakfasts will be American style. Lunches will be taken from a well-stocked cooler usually between casts. Dinners will feature fresh seafood, harvested from the local waters. Fresh yellowfin tuna, wahoo, crawfish, grouper and snapper will be prominent on the menu. A beer or two and some wine with dinner are included in the price at Water Cay Lodge.
Anglers on this hosted trip, will fish out of brand new, ultra shallow draft, "Hell's Bay"-type technical skiffs. A boat's draft is an important issue in this area and these boats will allow anglers to get closer to the fish before they get out to wade. In addition, these 5" draft Beavertail skiffs will allow Water Cay guides to reach areas other skiffs cannot, thereby opening up even more areas in which to hunt fish.
And finally, we all know that experienced guides can make a huge difference, particularly when you are hunting in a habitat as large as the flats system surrounding Water Cay. We're therefore delighted to have master Bahamian guide Sidney Thomas running the fishing program. Devoted and hard working, Sidney is the "real deal" in the fishing world. With Sidney's vast experience, he has assembled and trained a guide staff reflecting his technical excellence and exacting standards.
Great solitary fishing in a vast habitat, experienced veteran guides, a comfortable, well-appointed lodge, American management and excellent food all make this new lodge a perfect place for this hosted adventure. Price $2,995.00
Limit 6 anglers. |
South Andros Aboard the Sea Hunter
 | May 9-16, 2009 (2 spots remain)
We will position the Sea Hunter yacht at the southern terminus of South Andros Island at famed Jackfish Channel. Far enough away from land-based lodges, our efforts will focus on the creeks to the north and west, as well as the outside flats that surround Jackfish Channel that hold huge numbers of bonefish. The ship will tow not only two shallow draft skiffs, but also the 34-foot Sweet Jessie which is a perfectly built and maintained sportfisher that is tethered invitingly at the Sea Hunter's stern. Our intention is to offer up an eclectic stew of angling options. From our anchorage, we will have easy access to some of the best wade fishing in the Bahamas, as well as the pristine reef edges that run for miles just south of our mooring. And of course, it's an easy shot to the "big blue" that lies just to the east where the legendary Tongue of the Ocean begins.
Spacious and fully air-conditioned, the Sea Hunter can comfortably accommodate many more than the six anglers we will book for this adventure. The stern's four cabins have two complete bathrooms outfitted with sinks, full shower facilities and regular flush toilets... a very nice touch aboard a mothership. The master suite is quite large with a queen-sized bed and it also has its own well-appointed bathroom, again complete with shower, sink and full flush toilet. The main salon is huge and has a brand new 52-inch flat screen TV complete with a DVD player, VCR and stereo system. Meals are generally eaten under a canopy on Sea Hunter's massive aft deck. Sporting an impressive 30-foot beam she is wonderfully spacious and stable. In fact, we can't imagine a better vessel from which to base a fishing adventure!
So come join us on what promises to be a great liveaboard adventure as we hunt bonefish on the rarely fished West Side of Andros, explore the patch reefs and coral edges to the south and bluewater fish in the legendary "Tongue of the Ocean" for dorado, wahoo, and tuna. Price $2,995.00, Limit 6 anglers 2 spots remain.
